Pharmacological Action: purgative, antiflatulent, carminative, anthelmintic, stimulant, cardiac, diuretic, broncho dilation, decongestant K = kapha vata samaka, sirobirocana, krmighana, dipana, pacana, anulomana, rakta soahaka, khustaghana, rasayana; carminative, anthelmintic, stimulant, alterative; pulp is purgative, fresh jyice is colling, diuretic, laxative. Aqueous extract of berries is antifertility, anti ascarides

Indications (Uses): diabetes, parasites, asthma, bronchitis, slow heart rate, gas, cardiac pain, diabetes, ama, foul smelling stool, K = as alterative applied to skin diseases as ringworm; as paste with butter to forehead to relieve headache. Leaves of plant with ginger are used as gargle in sore throat and indolent ulcers of the mought. A past of the bark to chest in lung diseases like pneumonia

Contraindications (Cautions):

Constituents: N = embelic acid,a volatile and fixed oil, coloring matter, tannin, a resinoid body and an alkaloid called christembine, crystalline compounds of embelic acid with soda, potash, and ammonia,vidangin--colorless and crystalline K = embelin, alkaloid christembine, a resinoid, tannins, slight volatile oil, The embelin works against tapeworm
